Minister for Youth, Sports and Culture, Francis Phiso has noted that Neno Integrated Youth Centre is one of the agriculture centre that could be used to create jobs for youth beyond Neno District.
He said this on Wednesday when he visited the centre to appreciate the developments at the site as part of familiarization of the ministry.
Phiso said the centre was designed to train young people in animal husbandry, crop production and other agriculture production.
“Malawi as a country depends on farming. That is why government came up with the design to help in training youth in agriculture production in order for youth to be self employed instead of waiting to be employed.
“This development is not only for Neno but for Malawi as a country because it will accommodate youth from different districts hence we need to join hands and work together to develop this district and our country,” he said.
Phiso added that, ” Government is very much interested and committed in creating new jobs for the youth and this place was supposed to develop other agriculture centers in other districts hence I’ll do my best for this project to start functioning.”
Neno District Commissioner Rodrick Mateauma said lack of support had created a gap between the youth and operations of the centre, negatively affecting the youth.
