Ntcheu, Mana: Senior Chief Kwataine of Maseko Ngoni in Ntcheu has urged chiefs to refrain from politics and focus on development.
Senior Chief Kwataine made the remarks on Sunday during the installation ceremony of Dr. Semion Hau as Village Headman Galuakauwa and Kayange Chikwati as Village Headman Kambidzi in his area.
Senior Chief Kwataine advised the 2 chiefs to refrain from politics and concentrate on developmental issues.
“Let me advise chiefs to refrain from politics, chiefs should not to be misused by politicians as their puppets and i condemn such practice within my jurisdiction,” he said.
He further encouraged parents and guardians to send all school going age children to school so they can become productive members of the communities.

On his part, Ntcheu Central Constituency Parliamentarian Dr. Albert Mbawala advised Chiefs to lobby for development and follow protocol by using local development structures for transparency and accountability.
“With decentralization, I encourage chiefs to use development plans from the village action plans to village development committees, to area development committees thereafter the district development plan and that is where we look at when bringing development in the areas,” said Mbawala.
He said MPs and Chiefs have different offices but are developmental partners who must focus on development.
For years some quarters of the society have been criticizing chiefs for being partisan for personal gains.
