Mzuzu, Mana: Raiply Malawi Limited Thursday donated K3 million worth of materials towards Malawi Police centenary celebrations expected to take place early November, 2021 in Lilongwe.

Malawi Police Service, formerly known as Nyasaland Police, was established on October 5, 1921 and has clocked 100 years this year.

Receiving the donation at Raiply Malawi Limited offices in Mzimba, Northern Region Police Commissioner Richard Luhanga commended the company for the donation.

“We are grateful for the donation made towards the centenary celebration which we will have in Lilongwe,” he said.

He promised police’s commitment towards fighting illegal harvesting of timber and malicious fires allegedly caused by surrounding communities.

Luhanga said Raiply Malawi Limited contributes towards the country’s economic growth hence the need to operate in an environment free from criminal activities.

Raiply Malawi Limited Chief Executive Officer Krishna Das said the company has lost about 3, 000 hectares of trees to both illegal harvesters and malicious fires.

“With the aid of Malawi Police we have guarantee for the concession’s protection. We have had battle to guard against theft of trees that yielded little. But the assurance from the commissioner resurrects the hope,” he said.

Raiply Malawi owns a concession of about 20 000 hectares in Viphya Plantation commonly known as Chikangawa Forest.
