Director of Chiefs Administration in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Charles Makanga has appealed for unity and tolerance among councilors, Members of Parliament (MPs) for them to provide quality services to the general public in the country.
He made the appeal when he officially opened a three day-long induction training for Mchinji Council members and Secretariat officials on Wednesday.
Makanga said the induction training was conducted with an aim of ironing out conflicts between councilors and MPs, which are common in many councils.
“These inductions will help address misunderstandings which arise because of conflicting interests particularly between MPs and councilors. It will also help in improving their understanding of each other’s role,” he said.
Makanga noted that there are knowledge gaps among councilors, MPs, chiefs and secretariat officials due to absence of relevant reference documents on local government systems hence they fail to understand their respective functions.
Mchinji District Commissioner (DC), Rosemary Nawasha described the training as essential to the Council members saying it would help them to know their particular job descriptions.
She said the orientation would help improve team work among councilors and MPs in the district.MANA
