Chifuniro, born Chifuniro Eliazar Banda is an Afro-pop gospel artist from Lilongwe (Malawi) who started recording his music in May 2020 with OBK Studios in Blantyre. He has so far finished recording his debut album ‘Maloto Anga Afika’ which will be released in June or July 2021.
So far, from the 11 tracks (in the album) the artist has released to the public 4 songs (and videos) as part of the promotion. All the four [promotional] songs; Sagona, Ndaponda Mwala, Exemption and Mfumukazi have been darling to many listeners and television viewers. Ndaponda Mwala, in particular has ever topped radio and television music charts. It also enjoys airplays on international platforms, such as Trace Gospel.
Listening to both the released and yet to be released songs from the album, Chifuniro’s uniqueness is displayed in how he is able to fuse traditional beats with urban voice which appeals to listeners of all age groups. Again, his writing style which mainly consists of simple phrases makes his songs easy to sing along.
While maintaining originality in his compositions, the artist gets inspired when he listens to Lawi (Francis Phiri) and admires the musical journey of Faith Mussa.
So far, the artist has won two music awards, both as an artist and for his Ndaponda Mwala hit. He has been featured on number of radio and television programs and also in newspapers.
