Zomba, Mana: African Union Permanent Ambassador for Southern Africa, David Claude Pierre has said there was need to empower Malawian youth economically to allow them to effectively participate in national development.

Speaking Friday after visiting some youth groups in Zomba, he observed that the youth have the potential to develop a country if given the necessary knowledge and skills.
Pierre said his visit to the various groups in the country; the youth displayed great potential and enthusiasm to venture into various economic activities but only lacked financial support to advance their aspirations.
“I have always been inspired by young people’s ideas which, if given the rightful support, would spur economic growth of the country and improve on their wellbeing.
“It is my sincere hope that government will always fight for youth inclusion especially by giving them the necessary assistance so that they achieve their life goals,” the Ambassador said.
He commended Youth Groups in Domasi area for venturing into various agribusinesses, calling on youth in different areas in the region to emulate the culture.
“Most youths nowadays don’t take farming as an area that has great potential to boost their economic status but the enthusiasm with the youths from Domasi has motivated me to challenge youth in the region to rise up and consider farming as another area that needs serious investment,” Pierre noted.
District Youth Officer (DYO) for Zomba, Kattie Mwandira said the majority of the population in the country was comprised of the youth adding that by empowering the youth, chances are high for the country to develop economically.
One of the youth rearing quails at Domasi, Madalitso Chisawawa said most of the youth in the country lack financial and technical support adding that this was challenge that forces many to become unproductive.
“We have the skills and knowledge but what we lack is financial support and we call for youth inclusion and support,” he added.
